Misua with Two Red Eggs for First day of Lunar New Year

Hello Kindness,

A while ago, I asked you on my story what is your traditional meal for LNY. A few of my friends with Hokkien heritage told me a bowl of Misua with two boiled eggs is a must for the first day of LNY!

We all know noodles hold a special place in Asian cuisine because the long strand signifies longevity, so it is customary to eat them on birthdays. But have you seen/ tried Red Egg 红鸡蛋, hóng jīdàn? They get their colour from being boiled in red yeast rice (angkak)water.

It is auspicious to eat these eggs on LNY as it symbolizes a new beginning, fertility and growth.

Misua and red eggs combined together symbolize a bowl of good wishes for entering the new year (new age)with endurance, development and expansions in all things good. The Red dyed egg brings a good fortune and two of them since who doesn’t want a double fortune! So here is a bowl for you wishing you a good year ahead!

Here is a simple recipe for you to try!

Enjoy Xx
